What the writer thought

Michael Bauer’s early review favored the Peking duck, barbecue preparations and several dumplings. He was less convinced by thick soup-dumpling wrappers and an overly sweet accompaniment, and found some noodle and wok dishes less successful. The overall picture was ambitious but uneven.

Keep the context

This is explicitly an opening-era review from 2017, not a current verdict. Menu items, kitchen personnel and service arrangements may have changed substantially. Historical prices and booking details are not carried forward here.

How to use it when planning

When a restaurant has a broad menu, what do you want the meal to emphasize? Pick a few preparations that interest you and compare them with the current menu. An old review can suggest questions to ask, but it should not decide what a kitchen can or cannot do today.

Before turning a review into a plan

Read the original for the critic’s full reasoning and the period it describes. The restaurant’s own website is the source for present-day dining options. Chinatown Eats has not conducted a new tasting and does not assign a replacement score.
